Formal Learning in Informal Settings—Increased Physics Content Knowledge After a Science Centre Visit
نویسندگان
چکیده
Over the past 50 years, prevalence of interactives in museums and science centres has increased dramatically, with interactive learning proliferating around world. With a current estimated visitation 300 million people each year, free-choice through related venues become major source human over course lifetime. While many studies visitor experience have examined positive changes affective components learning, fewer whether specific scientific content knowledge is included what learnt. This research investigated gains informal learning. Three surveys were conducted at Otago Museum’s centre (Dunedin, New Zealand) visitors eight years older. The main component survey brief “formal” assessment form pre-post multiple-choice test, focus on physics concepts illustrated centre. Self-reported examples learned during visit selected items from Modes Learning Inventory complement data. In prior was age gender dependent, younger females getting significantly lower scores. Notwithstanding, to had an overall average 13% more correct answers test after visiting, independent gender. A flow diagram created visualise presence or absence interactivity. As expected, interactivity found increase

Obtaining Formal Knowledge from Informal Text Analysis
Populating formal knowledge-bases from natural-language text is a long-standing objective in computer science. Recent advancements in both ontology research and information extraction research are making this objective increasingly obtainable. However, there are still serious obstacles to performing automated reasoning over the contents of text documents. This paper focuses on one of those obst...
متن کاملAssessing Learning in Informal Science Contexts
This paper is primarily concerned with the assessment of outcomes in informal settings with a particular focus on science learning. An examination of hypothesized or presumed outcomes (both intended and serendipitous) of informal science learning experiences leads on to a critical analysis of the methodologies and methods used to assess those outcomes across a wide range of contexts. The eviden...
متن کاملTeachers' Attitudes towards Teaching in Formal vs. Informal ELT Contexts
Up to now, many studies have been done to show the origin of attitudes and their relationships with behaviors or actions. Some of those works have focused on students' attitudes and some have introduced the various contexts of language teaching and learning. These studies were enough to give a new impetus for conducting the present investigation. This paper investigated the teachers' attitudes ...
متن کاملA Four Dimensional Model of Formal and Informal Learning
Learning systems focused on collaborative learning are often described in terms of formal and informal learning, however definitions of formal and informal learning vary, which makes it difficult to compare systems that may have been described using different perspectives. In this paper we present a framework for describing formality in e-learning systems, which can account for the most common ...
متن کاملL.I.M.E. A recommendation model for informal and formal learning, engaged
— In current eLearning models and implementations (e.g. Learning Management Systems-LMS) there is a lack of engagement between formal and informal activities. Furthermore, the online methodology focuses on a standard set of units of learning and learning objects, along with pre-defined tests, and collateral resources like, i.e. discussion fora and message wall. They miss the huge potential of l...
